Multiple Explosions Rock University of Maiduguri — Metro Sallah Bomb

Among those the bombers targeted were people who were celebrating the Eid el-fitr festivities late Sunday evening.

Three of the suicide bombers were said to have attacked the University of Maiduguri where a security personnel died.

A male suicide bomber gained entry into the premises of University of Maiduguri and detonated PBIED on his body near the Rapid Response Services Office building.

Chukwu also revealed that four female suicide bombers infiltrated Zannari community in Gwange general area of Jere LGA, the same day.

Authorities in northeastern Nigeria say at least nine people have been killed by suicide bombers in a series of attacks in the area.

Isuku, also confirmed that there were other suicide attacks on the town overnight. "The [four] bombers died killing eight other people while 11 others were injured", he said.

"One of the suspects, detonated her explosives near the University's Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition Centre, and killed herself, without any casualties, while the second person detonated the explosives behind the Works Department complex, and equally killed herself, with no other casualties".

Chukwu said that the police Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) and Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) were mobilised to the scenes of the blasts to restore normalcy.

Residents said there was serious pandemonium in Maiduguri throughout the night.

The University of Maiduguri was established in 1975.

The University of Maiduguri has a circumference of over 40 kilometers making it easier for trespassers to penetrate. He said the N50million should be used for the ongoing digging of trenches behind the campus which covers 27 kilometres.

"But in the last two weeks, we have had tremendous security challenges in Damboa, in Chibok, in Maiduguri and in all nooks and crannies of the state", he added.

The attacks came after a weekend of fierce clashes between Boko Haram insurgents and Chadian troops on several islands in Lake Chad, which borders Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

There have been frequent clashes on the many small islands of Lake Chad since the Boko Haram conflict began.

"We have to commend President Muhammadu Buhari and the military for their efforts in fighting the Boko Haram insurgents".

According to DAILY TRUST, the attack was carried out by female bombers on Sunday.

"Today at about 0408 hours, two suspected female suicide bombers detonated explosives on their bodies within the premises of the university".

The incident which occurred at about 1.10 am led to the death of a security guard at the University who reportedly confronted them.

Professor Danjuma Gambo, the spokesperson of the institution, also confirmed the bombings in a BBC Hausa broadcast early on Monday.

Among the targets was the University of Maiduguri, where one civilian died.

"We only abducted them to serve as slaves to us", he said.

The footage shows only still images of the abducted women, but no video. "In fact, they are senior female police officers", Shekau boasted.

He said although the military had recorded tremendous successes against the insurgents, the recent spate of attacks in different parts of the state was worrisome.
