The shooter who was killed by the police was from Belleville, Illinois and 66 years old.

Sue Hodgkinson also told reporters she knew nothing about her husband buying weapons before leaving on the extended trip, which the widow claims she did not find particularly odd.

The five injured include two Capitol Police officers and the gunman, who was shot by police who responded to the scene, Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown said. She said she hasn't been with her husband since March, when he moved to the Washington D.C. area. A web page on Yelp indicates that Hodgkinson has been doing home inspections since 1994, and has 30 years experience in construction and remodeling as a general contractor, and that he worked in both Missouri and IL.

According to Facebook, Hodgkinson went to Belleville Township High School West and studied flight training at Southwestern Illinois College.

The man who opened fire on a baseball practice for Republican lawmakers on Wednesday appears to have purchased his guns legally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

In March, Sheriff's deputies came out to Hodgkinson's house in IL after a neighbor reported hearing 50 gunshots. "I can't wrap my head around it", Hodgkinson said.

Hodgkinson, who had been quite vocal about his opposition against US President Donald Trump on many anti-Republican groups on Facebook, including "The Road to Hell Is Paved With Republicans", "Terminate The Republican Party", and "Donald Trump is not my President". Bernie Sanders took to the Senate floor Wednesday to condemn the suspect in the GOP baseball practice shooting whom the Vermont senator said "apparently volunteered" for his presidential campaign. "He is grateful for the fearless actions of US Capitol Police, first responders and colleagues", his office said in a statement.

"I had no idea this was going to happen", she said during a brief address to the media Thursday afternoon, during which she was visibly upset.

Hodgkinson certainly never backed off on social media. "He was exhausted, I guess, of the politics going on", Walsh said.

On May 14, 2010, he wrote: "I don't envy the rich; I despise the way they have bought our politicians and twisted our laws to their benefit".
