With so much negativity in the news lately, Sega has taken it upon itself to cheer everyone up with the announcement of Sega Forever!

SEGA® Forever™ is a free and growing classic games collection of almost every SEGA game ever released from every console era - Master System, Genesis/Mega Drive, Dreamcast, and more. "Everything as far back as the SG 1000 Mark I through to Master System, Game Gear, Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast". Also, did I mention it's free?

There are only five games in the Collection right now: Sonic The Hedgehog, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon and Altered Beast. Sega have committed to releasing new games every two weeks, with favourites like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Alien Storm and more set for the service.

Sega intends to allow the batch removal of non-Sega advertising through the payment of a US$1.99 fee or by recovering the existing purchase if the game had already been bought on mobile before it was re-released for free.

Full controller support will be available via wireless Bluetooth. Once paired up, it is as simple as starting up the desired game of choice from the Sega Forever Program with the controller synced.

The only caveat is that multiplayer won't be functional at launch, although it will be worked on post the collection's initial release.

Although Sega exited the video game console business almost 20 years ago, its titles have spawned some of the industry's most iconic characters and has some of the most classic catalogs.

Sega Forever is the new initiative from Sega to bring its old games to your phone.
