With Siri intelligence, the HomePod offers various features such as listening to news, unit conversions, setting reminders, send messages, control other smart devices, weather updates and more. Also, it has also introduced a new music-based smart speaker called HomePod built to deliver topnotch audio experience.

"We want to reinvent home music", Apple CEO Tim Cook said before Phil Schiller, the company's Vice President of Marketing, pointed out the HomePod's unique position in the current market landscape.

Apple-designed upward-facing woofer, paired with the custom A8 chip. While Amazon Echo has the first mover's advantage and is priced much lower compared to Apple's Home Pod ($180 vs $349), consumers looking for advanced features and better sound quality may prefer the latter.

The Echo now only runs Alexa, Amazon's smart voice assistant. Amazon Echo Vs Apple HomePod is a competition worth seeing, but I believe that Apple lags in this race big time. And with Apple's HomeKit, Apple's proprietary wireless protocol for controlling third-party smart home gadgets in iOS, HomePod serves as a hub that can control connected lights and thermostats.

The speaker can also be linked up to an existing Apple Music subscription, which provides access to over 40 million songs. Does it have a chance in the smart assistant speaker market? Well Apple promises more than just a smart assistant speaker but a piece of equipment that can compete with Sonos and other high-quality sound boxes. Either way, we won't know for sure until the HomePod launches in December. Apple approaches voice interaction problems programmatically - Siri needs to be able to do X, so here are the ways you can tell it to do X. Google (and to a lesser extent Amazon) created a platform that actually understands context with machine learning.

The Apple HomePod is going to be made available initially in Australia, the United Kingdom and the U.S., and that will be in December 2017. By saying "hey Siri" users will be able to select songs, control volume and ask questions about the tracks and artists playing, such as "who is the drummer in this band?"

Apple said the speakers have "spatial awareness" that adjusts the speaker's sound levels to the acoustic conditions of the particular room.
