Hodgkinson's wife told media members this week that she was shocked by the actions of her estranged husband.

When that woman's boyfriend confronted Hodgkinson, he struck him in the face with a shotgun before firing off a round as the man fled, a police report said. Wednesday, they said the IL resident had been living out of his auto in the D.C. area since March.
The shooter, who is known as Tom (his middle name) to his friends and family, was raised in the same IL town where he and his wife resided.

The FBI said it had processed a white conversion van owned by Hodgkinson, which was parked at the YMCA adjacent to where the shooting happened.
According to his Facebook page, Hodgkinson was a fervent supporter of Sanders, the feisty independent who nearly defeated Hillary Clinton a year ago in a tough fight for the Democratic White House nomination. "She had no idea he felt as strong as he did", Wagner said.
