Report: Trump under investigation for possible obstruction of justice CNN sues Justice Department for copies of Comey memos

Trump's strategy for tweeting about what has become an obstruction of justice investigation focused on him is unclear.

Former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump abruptly fired last month, had reassured the president three times that he was not personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe.

Sessions told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence under oath on June 8 that he and Rosenstein agreed during their meeting with Trump that Comey should be fired.

Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".

And a third tweet contended that despite the "phony Witch Hunt" - Trump capitalized both words as if the phrase is a proper noun - the economy under his watch is booming.

He reiterated tweets from Thursday morning about the investigation.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, overseeing the Department of Justice Russia investigation, is looking into whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials tell the Washington Post.

Mueller met Wednesday with the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee in an effort to ensure their investigations don't conflict.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Comey had presented no evidence to prove that Moscow meddled in the US election, adding that Washington had tried to influence Russian elections "year after year".

The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking even more political oxygen out of the West Wing.

In another development, members of Trump's transition team that served him after he was elected in November until he took office in January have been ordered to preserve materials related to the Russian Federation matter, the New York Times (NYT) reported.

A weekend at the rustic mountain getaway is a far cry from the president's normal routine of jetting off to one of his lavish resorts, mainly Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

"As a matter of honor, and in light of his sworn testimony before Congress, Rosenstein would inevitably resign if confronted with a White House directive to dismiss the special counsel". Comey also testified he had told Trump he was not under investigation. Pence headed the Trump transition until inauguration day.

The president tweeted Friday, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".

The president tweeted Friday, "The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!"

Seth Moulton, a congressman from Salem in Massachusetts, tweeted, "As the Representative of Salem, MA, I can confirm that this is false", referring to Mr Trump's "witch hunt" whine.

News reports about Trump's interactions with Comey and other current and former intelligence officials have raised questions about whether the president sought to undermine or hinder law enforcement investigations into his former national security adviser Michael Flynn and possible collusion between his campaign associates and Moscow. "Regardless of the recommendation, I was going to fire Comey".
