"We're still able to get the player that we want in the draft and acquire another asset".

While Fultz had been the favorite to go No. 1 before the trade, Kansas forward Josh Jackson was quickly gaining momentum as a potential surprise at No. 1 or No. 2.

"We felt like the move from 3 to 1 was worth the cost of a first-round pick in the future", 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said.

UCLA's Lonzo Ball has always been linked to his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.

Giving the 76ers Fultz automatically makes them a huge threat in the conference. Jackson would seem to overlap quite a bit with Jaylen Brown, whom the Celtics acquired with the third overall pick in the 2016 draft-both are athletic small forwards who thrive with the ball in their hands, and both have cool hairdos that make them seem taller than they are.

I mean, the player visited the team and said he felt like he was destined to wear the green. "So I think, helping them with that, everything will pretty much help with that".

So the way he looks at it, the deal is a win-win. Philadelphia would get the No. 1 pick, Los Angeles would have No. 2, Boston No. 3 and Phoenix No. 4.

The Celtics own the pick from their 2013 deal that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.

There had been talk recently that a trade was in the works but nothing had been made official. So, it's actually good deal, right?

Fultz, the former Washington guard has been the consensus No. 1 overall pick in many mock drafts.

The Celtics were going to take someone other than Markelle Fultz if they held onto the top pick in Thursday night's draft, Ainge said. It was agreed to in principle at that point, with the last holdup being the customary league approval on the terms - which came Monday. There was an overflow of reporters and photographers taking pictures as Fultz walked into the building at 7:08 p.m. wearing a black Sixers cap. If the more favorable of the Sixers' and Kings' 2019 first-round picks is the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Sixers will instead convey the rights to the less favorable of those two picks. "But we're not afraid of that". With Al Horford having turned 31 earlier this month and Isaiah Thomas about to enter the final year of his contract, it would behoove the Celtics to see what they can accomplish now instead of just playing the long game.

"I'm definitely going to get some cheesesteaks from somewhere", Fultz told reporters after working out for the 76ers. He was the top freshman scorer in the country. The 76ers will now have a core of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Fultz for many years to come. That scenario forced Boston's hand to contact the Philadelphia 76ers, an National Basketball Association team with a documented interest in Fultz.
