The movie, which has done its fair share of festival rounds, was caught in a mess with the censor board deeming it too "lady oriented" in content, laced with sexual scenes and abusive words. But now the good news, Lipstick Under My Burkha will release in theaters on 28 July 2017, though with "A" certificate.

Kapoor has now confirmed that she will be the pan-Asia distributor and presenter of the movie as reported by Mumbai Mirror.

Instead of Balaji Motion Pictures, Ekta Kapoor's other company ALT Entertainment will present the film.

"Films by women, about women and through women's eyes need to be made and watched. I believe that this is a story that needs to be told and wanted to put all my muscle behind a film like this", the producer who brought about a landmark change in television, said. This film is the victor of the Spirit of the Oxfam Award and Asia Prize for Best Film on Gender Equality at Mumbai Film Festival. Oxfam said that the film was picked because it "creatively and effectively takes on marital rape, religious orthodoxy, sexuality of older women and, more importantly, women taking agency over their bodies".

After a long battle with the censor board, the makers finally received a certificate for release following Film Certification Appellate Tribunal's directive last week.

"Lipstick Under My Burkha" is now all set to release it on July 28.

Starring Konkana Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah, the film is a feminist drama exploring the sexual escapades of four women living in a small town, rebelling in their own ways against their conventional identities and patriarchal doctrines.
