Laredo police officers shot at convenience store; suspect dead

Three Laredo police officers were wounded in a shootout Friday with a man who was wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide. WOAI-TV also reported that several other officers arrived at the scene and apparently exchanged shots with the suspect as well.

Friday evening police spotted Rodriguez's auto at a convenience store. and as officers approached him they say he opened fire.

But when officers spot Rodriguez's vehicle, the suspect allegedly opened fire on police.

Detective Joe Baeza, the Laredo police spokesman, said officers had been searching all day Friday for 55-year-old Antonio Geraldo Rodriguez. As the officers moved in, Rodriguez opened fire and the officers fired back at him.

As of Saturday, one officer in critical condition had been airlifted to a San Antonio hospital.

Rodriguez, 50, was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

When the smoke cleared, three officers and the man had been injured.

According to a report by Breitbart News, Baeza told Breitbart Texas that the suspect was approached by three officers when he produced a handgun and began shooting.
