Red Sox outfielder Chris Young delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the 13th inning to score Mitch Moreland for the game-winning run. The over is also 17-5 in St. Louis' last 22 games overall, is 9-3 in the club's last 12 home games, and is 6-1 in the Cardinals' last seven contests when their opponent scores five runs or more in its previous game.

Abad, the seventh reliever used by the Red Sox, earned the win by allowing only one walk in two hitless innings.

Pawtucket Red Sox manager Kevin Boles said that Price treated the simulated start "like it was a game".

St. Louis scored three times in the second.

"I gave up two early with the homers and the team fought back and gave me a lead and I gave it away", Lynn said. Against Young, I kind of left the curveball a little up, and he was able to get enough of the ball.

It was the 10 leadoff home run of his career, which consists of 389 games. Bradley added a solo homer in the second for a 2-0 lead.

The Red Sox bullpen was instrumental, and perhaps the biggest story in Boston's win, as mentioned by Rick Porcello after the game. Consecutive hits by Yadier Molina (double), Aledmys Diaz, Magneuris Sierra and Kolten Wong (double) produced the first two runs before an RBI groundout from Tommy Pham capped the inning.

A leadoff walk in the fifth was followed by an error charged to Jedd Gyorko on a hard-hit ball, and a swinging bunt by Rodriguez advanced the runners to second and third.

Three runs all scored in the third inning, started by a Dexter Fowler RBI double. Deven Marrero, who reached on an error by Jedd Gyorko, scored on Dustin Pedroia's single to center to make it 4-3.

On Thursday, 28-year-old right-hander Hector Velazquez will start for the Red Sox as they continue to piece together the rotation.

LHP Drew Pomeranz, who left his start on Sunday with tightness in his left triceps, is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Wednesday and expects to start Saturday in Oakland.

NOTES: Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval will DH for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday night as he attempts to work his way back from a sprained right knee that has kept him on the disabled list since April 25. LHP Tyler Lyons (right intercostal strain) is expected to make one more rehab start in the minors. RHP John Gant (groin) has been activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

"Yeah, just trying to get a jolt of energy to start the game", he said.

They had only seven hits over the final 11 innings, never getting a runner past second base.
