- Jimmy Page (@JimmyPage) May 18, 2017I grew up in awe of Chris Cornell.

"You should have been at that Detroit show", Cornell imagined telling the crowd at the next concert.

The 52-year-old Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave. "When I found out I was so sad", stated an emotional Dave Mustaine before the performance. I didn't think much of it at the time, but maybe Cornell had been unhappy for longer than we thought. Hotel security eventually found him dead and it was later ruled by the medical examiner that the cause of death was suicide by hanging.

Cornell was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden on a USA tour that kicked off last month. Woody repeated that police are investigating Cornell's death Wednesday night as a possible suicide, and that the investigation continues.

A bench near the center of the sculpture was covered with flower arrangements, one of which included a note, "Say "hello" to Heaven", a reference to a song written by Cornell for a musician friend who died decades ago.

If anyone you know is suffering from depression and is contemplating suicide, don't hesitate to reach out and help them.

Soundgarden bagged Grammys in 1995 for their songs Black Hole Sun and Spoonman.

Cornell, 52, was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden, which had embarked on a United States tour in April.

Cornell also collaborated with members of what would become Pearl Jam to form Temple of the Dog, which produced a self-titled album in 1991 in tribute to friend Andrew Wood, former frontman of Mother Love Bone. "A great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man".

Christopher John Boyle, born in Seattle on July 20, 1964, was one of the founders of grunge, the rock slope that had his most famous son in Kurt Cobain, leader of Nirvana.

They disbanded in 2007 - with their track record lit by three Grammy nominations. Soundgarden reunited in 2012. After the show, Cornell went back to his hotel.

In April, Cornell visited CBS This Morning and appeared to be in high spirits, and even teased a new Soundgarden album.
