Running back Joe Mixon became the 80th Sooner in the 18-year Bob Stoops era to be selected in the NFL Draft when he was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 16th pick in the second round (48th overall) Friday night.

The addition of Mixon will make for an interesting battle this season at the running back position.

Back in 2014, Mixon was charged with assault after striking a woman that left her with facial fractures that required surgery to fix.

The crowd in Philadelphia booed when Mixon's selection was announced.

In a news conference with media members in Cincinnati, coach Marvin Lewis said the team did an extensive amount of homework on Mixon.

"Some of our fans are pausing for a second", Lewis said.

Lewis said Mixon will have to "understand the magnitude of what occurred. and what he has to continue to do to distance himself from that one day", and he indicated the club will monitor and supervise him to some extent.

"There are some teams that have pushed him either down their boards or off their boards because of injuries", Mayock said, via However, guys like Adam "Pacman" Jones and Vontaze Burfict have had success playing for the Bengals despite character issues. I don't know who wasn't disgusted by it.

Three years ago, he turned in the most horrifying performance in a security camera video this side of Ray Rice when he broke Amelia Molitor's face with a punch at an Oklahoma restaurant. He returned and had two impressive seasons, turning into an All-Big 12 performer while setting a school record for all-purpose yards in a season. He missed most of his rookie season and struggled at right tackle past year.

At cornerback, don't be surprised if they draft Washington's Sidney Jones with the 43rd overall pick in the second round.

The choice of Mixon opened some eyes.

A video of the brutal assault was released to the public in December and quickly went viral. I remember the day I met you man. "He has the opportunity to move forward and write his script from there on".

NFL Network's Mike Mayock noted that teams had concerns about Ross' durability leading up to the draft. He is also the fifth ex-Husky to go in the No. 9 slot, following RB Hugh McElhenny to San Francisco in 1952, DT Doug Martin to Minnesota in 1980, OT Lincoln Kennedy to Atlanta in 1993 and WR Reggie Williams to Jacksonville in 2004. This information comes from the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, who was really on top of breaking picks during the first round last night. The Bengals traded down in the second round, then took Mixon.

"I'm thankful Mia and I were able to talk privately", MIxon said. However, if you look at the situation objectively, do you genuinely think he deserved to be selected so high in the draft? However, last year's first round draft pick was sidelined by injury. He won't be ready to start the season, so the Eagles still need two starting cornerbacks to replace departed starters Leodis McKelvin and Nolan Carroll.

Though the Vikings signed Latavius Murray in free agency last month and the versatile Jerick McKinnon returns for his fourth year in the NFL, Cook was targeted as the long-term replacement for Adrian Peterson.
