Chelsea meanwhile are hoping the final will give them the chance of completing a domestic double, as they now lead the Premier League by four points.

The Wales worldwide said: "It was important for us to get to the final for him, for ourselves and for the fans, and have a bit of positivity around the club".

Arsene Wenger celebrates Arsenal's FA Cup semifinal win on Sunday.

Wenger though seems confident that the 28-year-old will still be at Arsenal next season even if his contract is running down, and also believes a renewal is possible.

"Transfer targets are the future of the club and are very important".

Oxlade-Chamberlain has excelled in Arsenal's last two games after Wenger switched to a 3-4-3 formation, and was singled out for praise after the 2-1 extra-time victory over City at Wembley. "We lost the ball and conceded the goal but we showed the right response".

"We had a hard period where the team was losing games it should have not lost and obviously you come to the situation where you play under pressure and need to find a way out".

Wenger's side host Leicester knowing a victory would move them back up to sixth, three points behind Manchester United and four behind Manchester City, who play each other on Thursday. I feel players showed great togetherness today.

"I think we're going to be under pressure in every game from now", he added.

"We have to transfer our energy levels from Sunday to the Premier League". We did absolutely everything to play, like yesterday for example, like Tottenham, so it's congratulations to Arsenal and Chelsea for a trip to the final. I think today, obviously, the most important [thing] was the discipline of the whole team and the effort.

The Frenchman has been in charge of the Gunners for the past 21 years but has never had so many dissenting voices among the supporters, with many calling for him to quit.

"He has the individual quality to make the difference", said Wenger. It is possible but we need a ideal run-in.

But it was another deflected effort - by Nacho Monreal, in the 86th minute, that deflected off Robert Huth - that finally undid Leicester and earned Arsenal the three vital points.
