"As we proclaim on Easter Sunday, 'Christ indeed from death is risen, our new life obtaining, '" the cardinal said in his Easter message April 16.

In her message, the Governor said, "Easter is the time of the year when we remember the sacrifice and Resurrection of Jesus Christ".

The senior Pastor of Shelter of Glory Church, Makurdi, the Benue state capital, King Omudu, gave the charge during the Sunday Easter service.

But Jesus Christ, who was crucified and resurrected in the name of mankind, atoned for the original sin and opened the way into heaven for good and godly people.

But what is the meaning of Easter Sunday?

In addition to celebrating the occasion, Christians also take the opportunity to connect with each other in fellowship and churches organise celebrations which include Easter Egg hunting, involving chocolate Easter Eggs.

METHODISTS flocked to the streets of Labasa Town yesterday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter celebrations are preceded by the 40 days of Lent, a time of abstinence and penance.

It's the churches 8th annual hunt, hosted by the Knights of Columbus, who say it's a fun way to get the family together and educate children about the importance of the Easter holiday.

Recognising the celebrations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak took to Twitter today to wish Christians in the country a "Happy Easter". After the Easter service at our church in the morning, we will have breakfast together.

This spiritual truth is the center of the Christian faith and separates Christianity from every other religion, Fowler said. "Same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead will raise our hopes and restore our dreams ... and may this Easter usher in a true genuine change in our leaders and the followers in Jesus mighty name". And that's what Easter does - gently or powerfully - that Jesus died on the cross not because God wasn't in control, but because He was - and still is.
