A Tennessee teacher and the teenage former student he was suspected of kidnapping were found in Northern California on Thursday, ending a manhunt that stretched on for more than a month, The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced.

As of March 14 - the day after Cummins and Thomas disappeared - Amber Alerts had been issued in Tennessee and Alabama and Cummins was sacked by the school system.

Investigators found out that Cummins booked rooms - in his own name - at Super 8 motels in Oklahoma City and in Guymon, Oklahoma, in March. But after that, the trail went cold.

Cummins faces charges of sexual contact with a minor and aggravated kidnapping, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

A call to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tip line led to a remote cabin where the Nissan Rogue at the center of the search was parked outside and the two inside, TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said.

The caller said Cummins had taken up residence in Cecilville, about two hours from the nearest police station.

The TBI initially said Elizabeth Thomas had been found in a commune, but later said they were found in a cabin, not a commune.

Authorities reportedly watched the area for several hours and arrested Cummins Thursday morning at daybreak.

Elizabeth is in federal custody and arrangements are being made for her return home as soon as Friday.

The girl was apparently healthy and unharmed, but authorities say their main concern is her emotional and mental state.

"As we have said from the start, it only takes one tip", Gwyn said.

An acting USA attorney in Tennessee says Cummins has been charged with taking a minor across state lines to have sex. Authorities were still working to reunite Thomas with her family, the TBI said in the statement.

Cummins faces state charges of aggravated kidnapping and a misdemeanor charge, and a federal charge of transporting a minor across state lines for the goal of sexual intercourse.

A drunk driver was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in the deadly hit and run case at Bay Shore, New York.

The school district of a missing Tennessee student who was found with her teacher in California says it is continuing its efforts to better respond to accusations of misconduct at school.

Tuesday, April 4, 2017: The wife of a former Middle Tennessee teacher accused of abducting 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas filed for a divorce, court papers show.

Cummins and Thomas went back to the property Barry tends and he said they could stay in his cabin if they agreed to work on the property. "I told them it couldn't possibly be true".
