Speaking to journalists in a televised statement, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said the crash was an "accident that appears to have been caused by weather conditions".

NTV television says Tuesday the helicopter was carrying a group of judges and police officers.

The rescue teams had to climb for over two hours to reach the wreckage, at around 4:34 p.m., said Soylu.

Teams of AFAD were dispatched to the area between Ovacık and Pülümür of Tunceli for searching efforts.

The chopper's other passengers were police officers and three crew member, Turkish daily Hurriyet quoted the governor's office in Tunceli province as saying. It is believed to have crashed because of unfavourable weather conditions, according to the statement.

The helicopter disappeared 10 minutes after taking off from the town of Pulumur, in Tunceli province, the regional governor's office said.
