Cristiano Ronaldo reaches milestone but says Champions League tie remains open

Javi Martinez was shown a red card on the hour mark for two fouls on Ronaldo in three minutes, and the four-time world player of the year then hit the victor, tapping in Marco Asensio's low cross to give Real the advantage ahead of the return leg at the Bernabeu next Tuesday.

"We suffered here but all-in-all it's not easy to play here". It also helped end Bayern's 16-match winning streak at home.

Madrid defender Sergio Ramos added: "We've taken a big step in the tie, but there's still the return leg to come against great opposition, who have shown that they're one of the favourites to win the competition".

"We did well to earn the comeback", Ronaldo said. He did well, he made some saves but that's football.

"I think if (Bayern goalkeeper Manuel) Neuer had not been on such form we would have scored more goals".

Ronaldo scored in the 47th and 77th minutes after Bayern had taken the lead in the 25th on Arturo Vidal's goal.

Ronaldo's second-half goals saw him become the first player to score 100 goals in European club competition.

Vidal was then given the chance to cap a superb first half from the penalty spot but he blazed his effort over the crossbar, although Madrid will certainly feel that justice had been done after the assistant behind the goal had incorrectly ruled that Dani Carvajal had blocked a Franck Ribery effort with his arm.

In the night's other fixture, Antoine Griezmann scored from the spot to hand Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Leicester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

"In the last few years I got to the end of the season at the limit and with small injuries, but I have worked hard with our fitness coach to be in the right shape for the final two months. The results are going our way and I'm happy because of that".

Ronaldo reached 50 goals in April 2013 after 96 matches that was despite only scoring once in his first 32 European appearances for Sporting CP and United.

There was heavy police presence at the Allianz Arena following Tuesday's attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus, and Bayern fans gave mild applause before kickoff when the announcer made reference to Dortmund's ordeal.

"Now we must rest because the game in La Liga is just around the corner", Zidane said.

"We played well and won well, but everything remains open for the second leg. Neuer?" Barcelona is coming off disappointing losses at Malaga in the Spanish league and at Juventus in the Champions League.
