The new device will run the special edition of Windows 10, Windows Cloud. That was a watered-down version of Windows 8 that didn't really catch on, but rather caused confusion and disappointment more than anything else.

Microsoft this week began blocking Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs equipped with the very newest processors from receiving security updates, making good on a policy it announced but did not implement past year. Although it will not be the Surface Book 2 not Surface Pro 5.

Microsoft would be very desperate to take on Google in the education segment where there is an increasing demand for cheaper and convenient devices. With an embarrassing low market share, what else can Microsoft do? This feature runs the Edge browser in a virtual machine, separate from the rest of the operating system, to protect the device from any web-based malware. The Surface 3 offers a flawless mix of performance and value starting at $499; however, it is no longer on sale in the Microsoft store.

In all honesty, the Surface Phone doesn't stand much of a chance against established flagships in the iOS and Android platforms. It also brings some of the top features users may not have been looking for, but would most appreciate. Microsoft also unveiled a virtual reality head set titled the HoloLens, a phone titled the Lumia 950, a tablet titled the Surface Pro 4 and a biometrics wristband titled the Band 2. Sources predict that the changes for the Surface Book 2 will likely push the number of machines shipped in 2017 to as many as 1.5 million units. That event might be where we see a new Surface Pro 5 debut as well. The big focus of the May 2 event is expected to be Windows 10 in the cloud.

Despite some improvements to Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) and the operating system update process, the lack of other anticipated Windows 10 Creators Update features left IT underwhelmed. When organizations upgrade or install Windows 10 for the first time, a menu will appear, in which users or IT can disable the sharing of data related to location, diagnostics, tips and advertisements, and more. Instead, it seems that Microsoft is finally ready to pack it in as far as Windows Phone, Windows 10 Mobile and the Lumia name is concerned.

Microsoft then ruled that Windows 10 would be the only supported edition on seventh-generation and later CPUs and simultaneously dictated a substantial shortening of support of both editions.
