Messi not bothered by Enrique's exit as Barcelona manager

"This is a very hard decision for me which I have thought about for a very long time but I think I have to be honest and fair about what I think", he said. "This decision is personal and the reason is the one I gave you", he explained, having cited the need for a rest when confirming his impending exit in midweek.

The new manager must rebuild, so will he do that by putting players around Messi, who will be 30 in June, or could the unthinkable actually happen with the Argentine forward being sold to bankroll a new start?

"The truth is that he surprised us a little, we did not expect it, but it is a decision that is understood and accepted", Suarez told Onda Cero's El Transistor. "We want to finish the season with victories and enjoy what's left of it".

Luis Enrique insists he is still full of confidence and vigour, despite revealing he'll be leaving Barca at season's end.

Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said the coach confirmed his decision to leave a few days ago.

Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Luis Enrique. Only the two greatest coaches in Barca's history - Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff - have won more.

Thus, the Asturian will have completed three seasons with the Catalan giants when the campaign ends, in which time he has won eight out of a possible ten titles, with three more still at stake.

It says so much that it's still actually hard to say what exactly Luis Enrique is especially good at as a manager, although he deserves credit for the recent tactical switch to a 3-4-3 that had been perceived as the kind of thing he just didn't do. The players are motivated to do it.

Barcelona is in a tight race for the league title with Real Madrid and reached the Copa final against Alaves.

Last season, he added further La Liga and Copa del Rey titles, but Barca came in for heavy criticism after a 4-0 loss in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at Paris Saint-Germain last month.

Sporting don't have troubles with injuries or suspensions apart from Jorge Mere who received a red card against Celta, but the encounter at Camp Nou is hard enough in itself.

"I have two reactions".

"The second point is if he decided that, I can understand him completely and of course I wish him the best luck". "My first is like a Barcelona fan, because it is the club of my heart, and I am so sad".

Luis Enrique shocked the football world on Wednesday night by announcing his intention to quit Barcelona at the end of the season. In 2014 after getting this position, he helped the team to win treble.

A first major trophy in over three decades quickly followed, a Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona, no less.

We were all left a bit open-mouthed.
