"Bush also said he and former first lady Laura Bush would be open to working with the Obamas on future projects".
"The poncho was a problem", joked DeGeneres. "Had you put a poncho...had you put one on? Was that the first time?"
"Yeah, it looks like it".
Yet, the reason why the two get along so well is pretty simple: Bush makes Obama laugh.
"And ya, I didn't like it sometimes when people said things about me, but that's the job", Local U.S. media quoted Bush as saying on Ellen Degeneres' show.
As a consolation, she brought out a special presidential poncho and even gave 43 a demonstration.
The pair sat next to one another during numerous events in the past, including the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.
DeGeneres during the show said that President Trump is raging an outright - just a war - against all press and not allowing them to do their job, which is a very risky thing. Bush said at the library the nation needed an independent press, but added that it needs to be accurate.
They also discuss the current political climate of the country, the importance of free press, and his contentious relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Bush was evidently swinging his arms and appeared to be enjoying himself, prompting some to criticize him for not acting appropriately during a solemn occasion.
"The wind started kicking up and I was afraid my hair was. going to go up", he said before getting teasingly defensive about his quite literal fight with fashion: "But anyways, try to put that baby on".
