Katy Perry makes a joke about Britney's 2007 breakdown

One tweeted, "Ironic how yalls woke queen Katy Perry screams "no hate" an hour after making fun of Britney's mental stability on the red carpet". Perry has yet to respond to the backlash over her Spears diss or to even release a quick statement apologizing for cracking the joke and explaining that she was just trying to be amusing on her big night. "After three years, I'm excited to return to the Brits' stage to kick off a new era of purposeful pop", she said.

The pop star's new single "Chained to the Rhythm" made its live debut at the Grammy Awards on Sunday and broke Spotify's streaming record - and according to her, there's plenty more where that came from.

Her comments prompted a Twitter frenzy and "Britney" to trend alongside the Grammys. "I've done all of them and the only thing left to do is shave my head, which I'm really saving for a public breakdown".

"I'm a huge fan of hers", she said at the time.

On Monday morning, Britney shared the following photo online.

Britney Spears' breakdown made headlines in 2007 when she went into an LA hair salon and shaved off all her hair at the height of personal issues she was going through.

There's no better revenge than simply proving you are unaffected by someone's comments.

Perry also mentioned Spears' head-shaving incident in a 2015 cover story interview with Elle magazine, and again on Twitter in February 2015. Spears' 2013 track "Passenger" was even co-written by Perry.

Over the weekend, Katy gave "Chained To The Rhythm" its live debut, when she and Skip Marley sang it live at the Grammy Awards, in a performance which won praise for its political undertones, culminating in them standing in front of a projection of the U.S. constitution.

Britney Spears doesn't seem to be bothered by Katy Perry.

What? We can dream, can't we?
