Colby Rasmus made a triumphant return from the disabled list and Evan Gattis blasted a home run in support of Colin McHugh, who pitched six scoreless innings in the Houston Astros 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park. Alex Bregman hit a two-run single and Carlos Correa had an RBI single as part of a three-run seventh. Alex Bregman then struck out, but reached when the pitch got away from Bruce Maxwell, allowing Springer to score.

Rasmus, sidelined since August 5 following surgery to remove a cyst in his right ear, smacked his 13th home run and added his 17th outfield assist while Gattis blasted his 22nd home run to carry the Astros (70-62) to a series victory over Oakland (57-75). Ken Giles closed for his seventh save. The Houston Astros offense continues to crush during this stretch, and they've won seven of their last eight games when scoring more than three runs.

Detwiler only had one bout of wildness, and it cost him a run.

Manaea allowed two unearned runs, one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

Detwiler had given up 14 runs and 23 hits in his previous three starts. It might well have been a hit were it not for the fact that the Astros had scouted him and had shifted toward the right. So Correa at shortstop was right there, but the ball handcuffed him, giving the A's an opportunity.

Maxwell's sacrifice fly made it 3-0, and the A's were in position to emerge from the six-game road trip with a split.

- Wendle's wife Lindsey, and parents Carol and Scott were all able to make it to Houston on short notice to see his Major League debut.

After trading Crisp to Cleveland earlier in the day, the A's called up Joey Wendle from Triple-A. "I'm just excited to be back in a game with these boys", Rasmus said prior to the game. "Sooner than I expected, but very exciting".

Stephen Vogt tied a season high with three hits. Doolittle hit 94 miles per hour on the radar gun Tuesday with Nashville.

Lefty starter Sean Manaea won't make his scheduled start Sunday, that going instead to Kendall Graveman. Manaea fielded a comebacker from Yulieski Gurriel to start the fourth, then threw one pitch to Marwin Gonzalez before manager Bob Melvin and the trainer headed to the mound.

- Oakland is leaving Saturday's starting berth open. The other is Jharel Cotton, who came within one out of a ideal game in his second start for the Sounds after being picked up in from the Dodgers in the trade that sent starter Rich Hill and right fielder Josh Reddick to Los Angeles. He will get a look in center, the manager said, in addition to left and right.

The trade would have to be official by Wednesday for Crisp to be eligible for the postseason. Healy is hitting.365 with a.403 on-base percentage during the streak.

Jose Altuve homered, Musgrove and three relievers combined on a four-hitter and the Astros beat the Oakland Athletics 6-0. He was promoted from Double-A Midland as day after the 74-59 RockHounds became the first Texas League team in over a century to win three consecutive league titles.
