Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero charged with violent conduct by FA

The striker appeared to have swung his elbow in the face of Winston Reid on Sunday when City faced West Ham.

The Argentine appeared to elbow Winston Reid during the second half of the match, an incident that the FA have confirmed went unseen by referee Andre Marriner.

"The FA has the power to take retrospective action for certain incidents that are not seen by the match officials, particularly where evidence is caught on camera".

The City forward's absence would be a major fillip for United and their new manager Jose Mourinho, who has a long-standing and bitter rivalry with City coach Pep Guardiola from their respective tenures at Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"Hopefully nothing happens", he said. I think our defence enjoyed it and we are happy with what happened in this match.

"If we lose him, we lose him. we will still have 11".

"[City] started very well, and not only did they show the quality on the ball which we knew [they had] but they were quicker, more aggressive than us and better on the second balls", he added.

City were 2-0 up after only 18 minutes, with Sterling drilling home the opener on eight minutes and taking advantage in injury-time with a delicate finish from the angle from David Silva's pass.

And Bilic was left rueing the absence of the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet - both still recovering following their close-season exertions at worldwide level - as well as Sofiane Feghouli (hamstring) and Andy Carroll (knee).

That they could not convert their first-half dominance into more goals will be mildly concerning to Guardiola as they allowed West Ham back into the contest after the break.

West Ham midfielder Mark Noble suggested Reid's speech had been affected by the blow, telling reporters: "I didn't see it".

"To be fair, at half-time I was angry about our mentality and character. We can't play much better than that when you're missing six, seven, eight top players and you're playing against them (City)". Second half he was better, ut of course we are so pleased.

"We created many chances so we deserved to win clearly with more goals". He can play right, left, he is so dynamic, so aggressive with the ball and without the ball.
