Jose Mourinho: Man United boss tells Bastian Schweinsteiger he can go

"I think it's very hard for Schweinsteiger to play this season".

However, Mourinho didnÆt rule out the GermanÆs chances completely saying, oI'm not saying it's impossible.

Jose Mourinho says Bastian Schweinsteiger is unlikely to feature as the competition in the squad is very high. We have a decision made about [Paul] Pogba, [Ander] Herrera, [Morgan] Schneiderlin, [Marouane] Fellaini, Michael Carrick. we have five players for two positions. "It's very hard that an opportunity will arrive (for him)", Mourinho told reporters.

Earlier this week Schweinsteiger said he would not be joining another club in Europe and added of his current employers: "I will be ready if the team needs me".

The tweet sparked rumours that the midfielder could be on his way to the MLS this season, with Atlanta United reportedly interested in luring the former German captain to Georgia.

Bayern didn't appear to be too pushed on keeping Schweinsteiger last summer, and while Rummennigge was appalled by Mourinho's treatment of the player, they weren't prepared to offer him an escape route.

Though, with that being said, Mourinho made it abundantly clear that Schweinsteiger would indeed need a lot of things to fall in his favour for that to happen. I am surprised Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is not here now.

Mourinho is a strong believer in his wider players dropping back to help in defence, something he has criticised the 27-year-old for in the past and, ironically, led to his transfer to Manchester United in 2014.

"That's not a problem for us". "I think it's not intelligent to make a decision about a manager because he wins or loses a match". I've done that all my career, not just me, everyone does it. He gave this last statement, which he is completely free to do in an objective and polite way like he did. "There are no problems at all".

Mourinho even went as far as saying, he would give a reserve team player the opportunity to play than the club's £160,000-a-week midfielder. It will be nice to have a week not surrounded by helicopters, waiting for somebody to arrive. "No one is coming and 23 players is more than enough".

Mourinho has hit back at those comments in his press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull City.

Schweinsteiger, now training with the United academy squad, is unable to move to Major League Soccer in the US or the Chinese Super League at present as their transfer windows are closed until 2017, unless he becomes a free agent.

Perhaps surprisingly, Mata has started in United's first two wins of the season against Bournemouth and Southampton under Mourinho.
