Beyonce, Britney and Rihanna take spotlight at VMAs

Beyonce proved once again she is the contemporary rock star, and she used the MTV Video Music Awards stage to showcase her skills and outshine her peers, from Rihanna to Britney Spears. But in the wee hours of Monday morning (possibly after a lot of celebrating took place), Drake posted a cute, very couple-y photo of him and Rih, congratulating her on her big night. As well as Video of the Year she also won Best Female Video for "Hold Up", Best Pop Video for "Formation", Best Long Form Video for "Lemonade", Best Choreography for "Formation", Best Direction for "Formation", Best Cinematography for "Formation" and Best Editing for "Formation".

"I dedicate this award to the people of New Orleans". Her third medley - which included "Needed Me", the banger-brooder "Pour It Up", the vengeful "Bitch Better Have My Money" - had her dancers wearing black T-shirts with RIHANNA in a death-metal-styled logo. Beyonce dominated in not only her killer performance, but also in her win of eight Moonmen.

The singer had a child less than a year ago, but like every other mother who took the VMA stage, Taylor is "strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business". According to the presenter, rap icon Puff Daddy, the Toronto star got stuck in NY traffic. I guess Drake saying he loved Rihanna was cool, but, I don't know.

They went on to say that Drake is wasting his time trying to lock down Rihanna.

"If war is holy and sex is obscene, then we got it twisted in this lucid dream/Baptized in boundaries, schooled in skin, divided by difference, sexuality and skin", she recited. She was raised in Bridgetown, the country's capital.

Ariana Grande and Nikki Minaj gave one of the oddest performances of the night.

Sure, Kanye West's Amber Rose shout out might have seemed harmless, but no woman - and especially Kim Kardashian - would want to see her husband continuously name check his ex-girlfriend in public.

Kanye West walked out to the first bars of "Famous", the controversial song from his most recent album.

"We wanted to do something different, something I've never done before, so that was probably the coolest thing we could come up with", Spears told USA radio host Elvis Duran on Monday (29Aug16). West was there to introduce the video for his song "Fade".

Britney's appearance at the ceremony marked her first performance at the VMAs in nearly 10 years. Although, attention may have been drawn away from her performance since everyone was still picking up their wigs after Beyoncé snatched them clean off. Britney still did her thing and we're jamming to her latest album, Glory.

Instead she mechanically went through the rhythms in a low-key duet with rapper G-Eazy, in which they tried to force some chemistry that just wasn't there.
