Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony are the only two players from the 2012 team who will be on the 2016 team.

USA Basketball announced the 12-player 2016 United States Olympic team, including Golden State Warrior and former University of North Carolina forward Harrison Barnes.

Anthony, a Baltimore native, tweeted on Monday, "Humbled to rep #TeamUSA in my 4th Olympics #RIO #UNITE" with a picture of a United States of America jersey.

Paul George, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, and DeAndre Jordan complete the all-NBA squad which is gunning for its third straight gold medal.

Thompson won a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship representing team USA.

The U.S. basketball team has its roster for Rio.

The 12-man line-up was confirmed today after much speculation, with regular-season MVP Stephen Curry, Finals MVP LeBron James and Russell Westbrook having already opted not to play in Brazil.

Notably, Thompson's most well-known Golden State teammate, Steph Curry, will not be in Rio because his withdrew his name from Olympics consideration earlier this month, citing recent injuries as the reason behind his decision to skip the Olympic Games. He will be assisted by Syracuse Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau and Monty Williams. I know this team will continue that standard. Durant set a USA record by averaging 19.5 points in London and also was the MVP when the US won the 2010 world championship.

For a short while, it appeared that the U.S. basketball team would have a little difficulty this year defending the gold.

The U.S. will start training for the Olympics in Las Vegas and play exhibition games in Las Vegas, Oakland, Calif., Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston before leaving for Rio.

The 2016 USA Basketball National Team coaching staff features USA head coach and Duke University's Naismith Hall of Fame mentor Mike Krzyzewski, whom Green called "Coach K". "I love our depth... we've got a great mix of talent, scorers, past gold medal winners and outstanding youth".

Team USA's opening game in Rio will take place August 6 against China.
