Police say a 57-year-old York man is the gunman shot by a state trooper Thursday evening after the armed robbery of a Wal-Mart pharmacy. They said the suspect raised his shotgun at the trooper, who pushed the gun away as a shot was sacked and hit a wall.

A trooper was already in the area and responded immediately, entering the store and encountering the suspect.

"A witness, Roni Zentz, told http://www.ydr.com/story/news/crime/2016/04/07/police-incident-reported-shrewsbury-walmart/82771264/" target="_blank" YDR the robber yelled at the store's pharmacy employees and had a black garbage bag and what appeared to be a shotgun.

The trooper's bullet struck the man in the chest. She heard gunshots inside the store and ran through the garden section to safety.

Markowski was responsive at the scene before he was transported to York Hospital. "I mean our trooper, the people who were in there shopping, the employees". A very nerve wrecking situation. A very nerve-racking situation. "Thank God no one was hurt".

The trooper is on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation into the shooting.
