The announcement comes after a change.org petition calling on Ben & Jerry's to create non-dairy ice creams garnered more than 28,400 supporters a year ago.
Raise your spoons! Ben & Jerry's has finally entered the dairy-free market with a full line of almond milk-based non-dairy frozen desserts.
The vegan flavors that they revealed include Fudge Brownie, P.B.
New versions of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Fudge Brownie flavors will still contain chunks of fudge and surprisingly moist brownie bites-but the creaminess of the popular desserts will now come from almond milk instead of dairy.
You might be familiar with some of their vegan flavors; there's Chunky Monkey for the banana-chocolate lovers, and Chocolate Fudge Brownie made with vegan brownies from New York's Greyson Bakery (which you can feel doubly good about because they provide jobs and training to low-income people). In fact, Ben & Jerry's Non-Dairy Ice Cream seems to be a true indulgence, not rivaling other brands in the purest ingredient use. Offering an ice cream for their vegan customers would signal their support for cutting back on animal products. Kirsten Schimoler of Ben & Jerry's says creating the lineup with a nondairy base composition that meets consumer expectations was quite a challenge. Regardless, this is clearly a moment for vegans, the kosher community, and the lactose-intolerant to celebrate!
